The number of new businesses and applications filed in the registers administered by the National Business Center (QKB) increased during April 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier.
Official data show that 2,009 new entities were registered in April 2026, up from 1,793 registrations in April 2025, reflecting a 12% increase. Meanwhile, the total number of applications submitted to the registers reached 14,615, compared with 13,873 applications in April last year, representing a 5.35% rise.
The increase in new registrations was driven mainly by Tirana, which continues to account for the largest share of economic activity, with 1,026 entities registered in a single month. Vlora followed with 260 registrations, while Durrës recorded 225 new registrations.
According to data from the Commercial Register, businesses with 100% Albanian capital continued to dominate the market, with 1,762 entities registered in April 2026. Meanwhile, 212 entities were registered with fully foreign capital, and 32 entities had mixed Albanian and foreign ownership.
The majority of new registrations belonged to the “sole proprietor” category, with 1,534 registrations, while 469 limited liability companies (LLCs) were also established during the month.
The sectors with the highest level of activity in April 2026 were wholesale and retail trade, with 479 registrations, accommodation and food services with 341 entities, and administrative and support services with 151 registrations. Significant activity was also recorded in construction, information and communication, transport and storage, as well as real estate.
The data also show that 629 entities registered during April 2026 were managed by women.
In the Register of Permits, Licenses and Authorizations, 201 permits and licenses were recorded during April. Of these, 34 were permits, mainly related to environmental activities and fishing, while 167 were licenses linked to medical services, travel agencies, tour operators, food trade, pharmacies, and international transport.
Meanwhile, 496 entities were registered in the Beneficial Owners Register during April 2026, dominated by limited liability companies, which accounted for 466 registrations.
According to the report, the number of applications submitted to the registers during April 2026 reached 12,491 for the Commercial Register, 1,196 for the Register of Permits and Licenses, and 928 for the Beneficial Owners Register.
